Yesterday was a good day, productivity-wise.
I had a few things to sort out and I made a very good start on the real biggie.
It’s a commission for a boy’s quilt.
The thing about undertaking commissions, is that you never quite know whether the actual finished article is going to match the recipient’s vision of the finished article – until it’s too late…
Which makes the process somewhat nerve-wracking!
But you can only do your best.
And I actually really like the way this is shaping up. Which is as good as it gets at this stage of proceedings.
You may remember, or you may not, that I collected quite a number of rather spiffy vintage tea towels a while back. It was not without purpose.
Well, it was time for them to meet their destiny. In the space of a day they have been transformed from this…
I did consider just sewing all those squares together.
But with so much going on within each square, I think that the eye really needs a place to rest.
And the design needs the structure and discipline of some plain white sashing to really make each square sing.
So my next job will be to cut a lot of white cotton strips.
And then the work really begins! ♥
That is going to look amazing! I love souvenir tea towels but never buy them, as personally I prefer floral patterns…but of course maps and castles and animals make great motifs for a less ‘pretty’ scheme…can’t wait to see the finished piece! x
It will be stunning … it’s amazing the lovely graphics you get from the tea towels … it is sure to be treasured … Bee xx
Hope so! It’s quite idiosyncratic – I just hope the recipient likes it!
Sorry to swear but that’s bloody gorgeous!! Go girl…love it! X
Aww, thanks chuck!
Im wondering how you got all the pieces so flat and how non of them are freyed???
Looks totally amazing btw!!
Rupie
Hi Rupie, I ironed the tea towels first, using spray starch. Then cut the squares using a rotary cutter and patchwork ruler.
