One of the events forming part of Sherwood Art Week is an Artist Trading Cards swap.
Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s) are miniature pieces of art measuring 21/2 by 31/2 inches. They can be made from any material including paper, card, textiles, metal or ceramics and can be swapped, but never sold.
I had heard of ATC’s, but only in the context of reading in the upmarket papers about people finding their luck was in when they received a card by some famous artist.
I like miniature things. A lot. I’ve always had fiddly tendencies, right since being a child. So the idea of creating textile art in miniature really appealed to me.
And I’m absolutely LOVING the process of making them!
I had no idea what I was going to do when I started, but as I had one ready-cut square of nice, sturdy orange barkcloth left over from cutting scrap packs, it seemed a good starting point.
And once my imagination got going and there was no stopping me…
The words (and the numbers on “Millefiore”) are from my collection of fabric selvedges. I always save my printed selvedges, and I’ve had the idea of using them in a project festering at the back of my mind for some time.
They’re not finished yet (apart from “daisy”). And I need to make ten cards in total, so I still have quite a lot more to do.
They will go into the Sherwood Art Week swap event on Wednesday evening.
And there’s another thrill still to come…
I wonder what I will receive in return? ♥
interesting…
I would never have thought to keep fabric selvedges! These are perfect for this use.
Hope you receive cards just as creative.
Thank you , I’m sure I will, there are so many talented artists in Sherwood.
I finished the rest of the cards today, so pop by tomorrow if you would like to see the full set!
Great idea. I too keep selvedges…have often used them as straps on bags as they tell the history of the fabric etc. love your use of them.
