So the next creation arising from my newly-found obsession for doll-making is complete.
Well, apart from sewing on the arms.
The doll needles required for the task arrived as I was typing this… bent beyond all possible use somewhere en route through the postal system (one is actually snapped in half!)
Rats. Another potential battle with an eBay seller beckons. Isn’t the postal service wonderful? Anyway, moving swiftly on…
As you can see, I didn’t stick too closely to any of the outfit pinspiration pictures I found. Although I still have a headful of ideas for the future.
The one thing I was intending to copy slavishly was a 1970s-style floppy felt hat…
But once I’d had a go at making the crown I decided it looked better as a felt cap.
So I ended up sewing a bobble on it instead of a brim…
The vintage napkin / placemat stash got raided again for a skirt…
And my “never discard anything” policy paid off when it came to the hand-crochet lace skirt trim – that had been looted from a yonks-ago snipped-up vintage tablecloth.
By the way, she does have scanties on underneath. (Scanties is my new favourite word, by the way.)
Rather less scantily than her sassier predecessor, she sports long bloomers made from a vintage hankie – but I forgot to photograph those.
And although her clothes are all removable (the shirring elastic I just rediscovered amongst some inherited haberdashery came in very handy!) that fetching top is still a tad snug for me to want to subject it to yet another journey over all that blue hair.
Ah yes, the hair.
If I have learned one thing about making dolls over the past few days, it is never to underestimate just how flippin’ much hair a doll’s head requires if she is not to look like she needs an immediate course of Regaine.
Although I really love her predecessor, I tried a slightly different, less “matronly” body shape this time.
I think there are still tweaks to be made on that score though.
She came out a little swan-necked – hence the collar-cum-scarf she is wearing…Anyway… I’m certain that she won’t be the last in the series.
After all, there are still loads more vintage-inspired outfits I’d like to wear vicariously make. ♥
I admit I prefer this more slender version – perhaps it’s the blue hair or the red boots or the lacy trim on her skirt….
I like making different versions. I might try a little tiny one next.
love your baby doll nice work! I’m a big fan of stitching sewing embroidery etc
;+}
I love the collar – it’s the best bit. I want one!
