I made this yesterday, totally on a whim.
I already had another doll half-completed, but had reached an impasse with her clothes. Crimplene mini-skirted, I just couldn’t think where to go with it next.
So I went somewhere else entirely.
I’d had a sudden thought that I wanted to try making some sort of creature-esque doll. And that I wanted to make it in patterned fabric.
When I began, I really wasn’t sure whether it was going to turn out to be a creature, or a doll with creaturely features.
In the end it turned out to be a bit of both.
It’s a little bit doll-in-fancy-dress, a little bit Where the Wild Things Are and a tad I’m-not-quite-sure-what.
A cute, female version of Frank in Donnie Darko, perhaps?
Donnie: Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?
Frank: Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?
I hand stitched the face on, but I’m not doing it like that next time as I’m not entirely happy with the result.
I tried covering up my less-than-perfect stitching with trim, but it just didn’t look right. A bit too Kenny from South Park. So I unpicked and took it off again.
In future I’ll appliqué the face on first.
It’s a shame the term bunny girl has such unfortunate associations, because I can’t think of what else to call her.
Frankie, maybe? ♥
Miss Bun – love her! Hope you do loads more variations of these. So, so cute. The green fabric works so well for the the body. She may catch a chill without a little weskit though 🙂

A shawl/weskit/scarf was part of the plan, but I ran out of time to make one yesterday as I wanted to get her photo taken before the light disappeared!
Call her Rabbit Rachel! Am really enjoying watch your dolls develop. And I like the hand sewn face. Makes it look more personal, to me small imperfections show the love and creativity that goes in to it. Striving towards perfection is for the shops to do.
She’s so sweet!
Oh, bunny girl is cute! Make a fox next!
