christmas past

Hello, I’m Bee from the linen cloud and it’s lovely to be here.

I was so delighted to be asked to guest post at modflowers whilst she is away enjoying a family holiday in Australia.  I love modflowers designs and am the lucky owner of a few of her gorgeous makes which I am more than happy to provide a home for.  I share a love of vintage fabric and was thrilled when I found modflowers.  I began blogging earlier this year at the linen cloud where I share my stories about family adventures, crafting and beautiful things I admire.  I hope you enjoy my posts this week and that you might find something to connect with.

So now a little about my Christmas past.

As a child, my family and I spent every Christmas with my grandparents, sitting down to dinner in their living room where an impromptu table had been assembled and set, most years for at least 10 people, but often for as many as 16.  My mum and grandmother would spend all day on Christmas Eve preparing a virtual mountain of food for dinner on Christmas Day.  The turkey left cooking slowly in the oven while we all went to Midnight Mass.

My most vivid Christmas memories are of experiences; I find it very difficult to recall many of the actual gifts I received as a child.  The memories of my cousins arriving after dinner brandishing their new toys full of excitement and in time for their tea, ready to play Twister (always a favourite) while the adults chatted and enjoyed a favourite tipple.   My older cousins calling in to play cards with my grandfather before they went out for the night. These are the things I remember.

Inevitably, times change and although my own family is a lot smaller now, I try to emulate the same boisterous festive fun and traditions that I grew up with.  Our Christmas centred around family, good food and a whole lot of fun and my Christmas wish each year is that my little ones will have just as many lovely memories of their Christmas past as I do of mine.

I’ll be back tomorrow to share some origami paper crafting, hopefully you can join me.
