cotton (eye) candy

modflowers: Finnish fabricsAnyone who has cast a cursory glance at my blog will know that I have more than a passing interest in vintage fabric designs.

I don’t consider myself an expert. Far from it. There are plenty of people who know a lot more about the subject than I do.

But if you could count the number of beats that my heart skips, or plunge a dipstick into the depth of my passion, I think it would be difficult to find anyone who loves vintage fabrics of a certain era more than I do.

So… any new discovery about these wonderful fabrics is, for me, a thing to celebrate wholeheartedly.

These wonderful vintage fabrics are by two Finnish designers, Raili Konttinen and Juhani Konttinen.

They designed for Pori Cotton, a Finnish company established in 1898 that went on to produce some amazing fabric designs…

They produced some of the most vibrant and beautiful original textiles of the era –  for both home furnishings and garments.

See for yourself…

I just picked out a few of my favourite designs to include, but there are literally hundreds more, including geometrics as well as florals.

You may not be able to stroke them, or consume them, but you can indulge in their gorgeousness guilt-free.

Go feast your eyes. ♥
