I had a lovely time yesterday at the flea.
That’s me, in the middle of the pic above, all set up and waiting for a sale.
I’m sorry that not all of you could be there, because I’m pretty sure you would’ve enjoyed it too.
The music was groovy. The space was cool (in a good, not a chilly, way). Becky, of Pretty Dandy, did a great job organising.
Just click on the photos above to find out more about the sellers.
I took lots more photos, but my phone is refusing to talk to my laptop, unfortunately. So I can’t show you them.
I bought…
A fabulous mustard-and-grey tablecloth, which looks like barkcloth, but is as soft as butter and as drapey as a set of the drapiest draper’s drapes.
You could even wear it as a shawl. Which I might just consider doing.
I also bought a couple of lovely fabrics from my friend Maria, whom I think, once the stress had worn off a bit, also had rather a good day.
I lent Maria my other purchase for the duration of the flea, as she found herself in need of an extra tablecloth…
I was also sorely tempted by a pair of industrial wire baskets (for fabric storage). But…
I didn’t actually sell a vast amount. Which meant I couldn’t afford them.
Although it was a bit disappointing, it was not heartbreaking.
It’s one thing to be stuck at a boring event, on your own, twiddling your fingers and listening to terrible music played on a loop. (Or, as sometimes happens, no music at all).
It’s quite another to be in a cool industrial space, with great music playing in the background, friends dropping by and plenty of entertaining company.
My fellow stall-holders, with whom I shared a rather confined space, were all rather lovely. I got my tweetie bottoms sewn.
And the people-watching was great entertainment in itself – suffice to say, at one point I found myself explaining kawaii and steampunk to someone.
I also had a retail enquiry, and an invitation to help teach a class on social media and branding for craft sellers.
Plus, I replaced my moth-munched cashmere cardi, for the princely sum of £8.
Can’t be bad!
Money really isn’t everything. I prefer to think of it this way…
If someone offered me a swap: yesterday, for one day back in my previous (well-paid) job, I’d have just laughed!
Still, it was nice to get home, kick my shoes off and relax.
And Sunday’s day of rest is truly appreciated this week.♥
Totally agree with your “money ” statement. Glad you had good day….loving that drapery!
It’s even nicer in real life actually, it looks more orangey in the photos, but actually it’s all lovely mottled mustard yellow shades on a grey background. I doubt I’ll ever cut into it, in my mind’s eye I can see it draped over my grey wool winter coat (but I haven’t tried it out yet, so we’ll see!).
I wish there’s were flea markets like that around here. It looks like Heaven (although, it would probably be way too much temptation for me. I already do way to much damage on my checkbook when the holiday pop-up shops start popping up.) You had some great finds and even though you didn’t sell much it sounds like exactly my kind of day.
I’m sure you would have loved it craftymadre, I’m sorry you couldn’t have come! Many of the pieces on sale were utter bargains, so you needn’t even have felt bad about spending too much!
Your stall looks fabulous! I think it’s just as well I couldn’t visit as I would have wanted to buy everything!! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I definitely vote for love and time over money – I’m going to be counting the pennies now, but time rich 🙂
Thanks Zoe! You would have had a great time, I’m sure. There were craft workshops going on upstairs, my friend did a crochet one. And at the back of the room (not visible in my photos) was a cafe with what looked like delicious cakes. I managed to resist!
I wasn’t going to say this, but that picture of you makes me sad. You look lonely. You might not be, but that’s how I feel. And it also makes me sad that you didn’t sell lots. There must have been a bunch of frugal browsers there. I always wish we had these fairs near me, but honestly my budget would be severely compromised if there were. I wouldn’t be able to leave your stall without quite a few things.
Aww, don’t be sad Erica! I did have a nice time, honest. I think the look on my face is more one of nervous anticipation than loneliness. I was caught in that moment between having set everything up, and relaxing into the day. Others around me were still busy putting stuff out.
I think the problem was that people came for the vintage stuff, which was well-priced and of good quality. It’s what I bought myself. And the event was just that bit too far from Christmas to attract the gift-buyers.
Yes, the “that’s so cute…I could make that!” Crowd. I’m one of them, but I also love supporting people (like you) that I find to be extra fabulous. 😀
