Having come back from a weekend away, I am starting to feel slightly panicked at how little work I have done recently.
You know that feeling… in the back of your mind it gnaws away, whispering in your ear… “you really need to get on with it.”
I no longer have the comfort of all those unsold cushions to fall back on, so to speak, when it comes to stocking my stall.
Because stock a stall I must. At Sherwood Craft Fair next month.
Being enveloped in stuff that doesn’t sell means you don’t have to worry about filling up all that empty stall space. But now that my stall stash has been de-stashed, I have a whole lot of stuff to make to fill it.
So to start with, I’m making these little patchwork envelope pouches. They are not my own design – you can find the instructions here, should you wish to make your own.
They are big enough to take a phone or other gadget. Or to stash stuff inside (bits of makeup, earphones, spare bus fare) so that they don’t get lost in the bottom of your big handbag.
I’m using some of the finest of my vintage button stash to decorate them (they actually close with a hidden popper)…
I am perhaps surprisingly unsentimental about buttons and can happily utilise even the nicest ones in a way that I find difficult to do with my more precious fabrics.
I might add a detachable shoulder or wrist strap to some of the pouches – what do you think?
Then you could wear one jauntily over a frock-and-cardi-combo for a summer evening, leaving you unburdened by a handbag at all (if you’re brave enough?)
Anyway, hopefully people will like them. I lined them with nice fabrics inside.
Best get on with making a few more. In lots of lovely patterns and colours.
And get going on all those other ideas and half-finished projects I have waiting for me.
Because if I don’t, I’ll end up enveloped in embarrassment when stall-time comes around. ♥
These are so pretty! They are going to look great on your stall.
love these too!
That’s brightened up a rainy day! Laptop size would be good too! 🙂
Good idea!
How about a really big one with backpack straps? A pretty alternative to the old fashioned school satchel look. You’ve got some great colour and button combinations going there, too.
I really like your bags and I love the idea of a strap to use as a cross body bag. Could you make the strap detachable?
Indeed I could Jane! I was thinking of attaching the strap via buttons, with a buttonhole at each end of the strap, so that you could just unbutton and remove it when it’s not required.
They look fabulous – love the contrasting lining. Detachable straps are a great idea – I love being hands free!
