It’s amazing what turns up sometimes.
I’ve been making quite a lot of tweety bird cushions recently. I use vintage buttons for their eyes.
I’m quite particular about which ones I use, as I don’t want my birds to have that slightly dazed – or dead – look that buttons with holes in the middle tend to give creatures that have them for eyes.
So I try to only use black, shanked buttons. I was lucky enough to buy a stash of them a while ago. But they’re running a bit low.
I went back to the shop where I found the last lot. But no joy.
And nothing on ebay, or online. Boo.
I looked at buying safety eyes, which would be more suitable for children, but they were quite expensive. Double boo.
But then, what should I spy with my little eye, tucked away on a shelf in the local charity shop, but a jar of what looked at first glance like liquorice drops.
I had spied with my little eye… little eyes! In fact, it was a lovely big stash of black, button safety eyes.
All for the princely sum of £1.
There are far more eyes than washers in the jar, but I should be able to buy more washers.
The imminent danger of dazed-looking birds has passed.
Sighs of relief all round.
What a find! Ooo, I’m anxiously awaiting my new tweeties! (In a happy, excited way…not at all an impatient one.)
Should be taking the parcel to the post office to weigh this very morning! Would you like me to email you pics of your “surprise” tweetie, or would you like to sustain the surprise until you actually see it in the flesh?
Sustain please! No pictures of the necklace either. I just love surprises…good ones, that is. 😀 lol
Right-o! x
Oh I love it when that happens. Good for you, beautiful eyes!
They do have a certain liquorice-like appeal en masse, don’t they?
Big relief!! Dazed and dead birds would have way less appeal, I think!
Definitely! Brings to mind a certain comedy sketch, which I showed lad for the first time at the weekend. I’m not sure he got it…
Well spotted!
Yay !!!! That is the BEST feeling, the feeling of finding something you need and at a GREAT price 🙂
