festive mini-making

modflowers: mini angels I may have mentioned before, that I am something of a last minute person when it comes to Christmas.

When to start making Christmas things is always a problem for me.

I end up having a sort of internal tug-of-war between needing to have stuff to sell, and feeling like I’m betraying my true “not-putting-up-the-tree-until-Christmas-Eve” nature.

But needs must. My first proper Christmas stall is in less than two weeks, and I can put it off no longer.

So hallelujah and behold – my mini angels!

modflowers: mini vintage fabric angelThey are only two inches tall and have lace or broderie wings. Their faces are cut from an old pillowcase, the sequin stars are yonks old, and their hair is made from a skein of vintage lurex knitting wool (a lucky charity shop find.)

modflowers: 1980s trinketsTheir beaded crowns, made from these little embellishments, have been in my sewing box – unbelievably – since the 1980s!

I bought them in Neal Street East, a shop in London that used to sell all sorts of ethnic nicknacks, but that sadly no longer exists.

modflowers: mini angels Anyway, I don’t actually feel too bad after my bout of early festive mini-making.

In fact, when I was in town on Monday I actually (say it quietly in case anyone is listening) bought a Christmas cd.

I almost put it on whilst I was stitching up my angels.

But then I came to my senses. After all, it’s only November.

Best not get too carried away. ♥

    • Yes, of course Heather! The angels are £5 each, plus postage. If you email me at modflowerdesigns@gmail.com with your paypal address and postal address I can invoice you. Postage will be charged at cost to your location – I’m happy to post worldwide.

  1. Neal St East has to be my all-time favourite shop. On the very rare occasions that I’m in Covent garden I feel so sad that it’s not there anymore. I still sleep under a bedspread that was bought there, and my kitchen cupboards are full of all sorts little tiny Chinese bowls and saucers in the shapes of fishes and flowers. Happy days…

    • Yes, it was such a treasure trove, wasn’t it? Lots of absolute tat that you didn’t really want but couldn’t resist as it was so cheap, but also lots of unusual and beautiful things that you just didn’t see so much back in those days. And everything you bought there smelled of incense!
