gifted

modflowers: lovely bagI’ve never set a huge amount of store by gifts.

Don’t get me wrong, I love getting – and giving – presents as much as the next person.

But life has shown me that the world doesn’t actually come crashing to a premature end if you don’t get exactly what you want for Christmas / your birthday.

And I’m really quite glad about this fact, given that I’m not always very good at present-buying myself.

However, nothing tops my partner’s past transgressions in this area.

His heart is always in the right place, but (*whispers*) the less said about rucksacks or juicers in the same breath as birthdays, the better.

modflowers: lovely bagSome people, however, get it right. Like my friend Maria.

Who remembered my attraction to this lovely handbag on her stall before Christmas – and then gave it to me for my birthday, five months later.

It’s particularly appreciated, because my beloved Orla Kiely bag (bought on eBay many years ago) died of fatigue whilst I was on holiday in Australia.

This lovely is well worthy of taking it’s place.

And just look how it fits in with my stuff – isn’t it just so me?

modflowers: lovely vintage bagI actually got a fabulous break in Cornwall as my birthday gift from my partner this year. It’s not something you unwrap, but I couldn’t have asked for more.

I’m feeling very blessed.

Presents aren’t the be-all and end-all – and luckily for me, being a bad present-chooser does not make you a bad person.

But being a really good present-giver is a gift. ♥

    • It is rather super, isn’t it? It’s lined with plastic stuff like a giant washbag too – so practical as well!

  1. Happy birthday! That’s the nicest piece of arm candy I’ve seen in a long time. But I think I can beat you on the *ahem* inappropriate gift front. A boyfriend in a previous life gave me a vacuum cleaner… he didn’t last, obviously.

      • Contrary to what a large portion of the male population thinks, we really don’t fantasise about domestic appliances… If only they could read our minds, it’s so unreasonable of them!

        • For me it demonstrates a key difference between how men and women think. Men equate appliances with gadgets (usually something most males choose to spend cash on by choice) and practical/useful with desirable. Whereas for me at least, gadgets are just a means to an end, not desirable in and of themselves. And the last thing I want for a gift is something practical, as I can usually justify buying that anyway – I want people to buy me stuff that I can’t justify for myself!

    • I, to be honest, had forgotten all about it! Once I decide I can’t buy something (I hadn’t made enough money at Christmas to justify it) I have to cast things from my mind so as not to be haunted by all the lovely stuff I can’t afford!

  2. The first year we were married, my husband gave me…get this…a battery charger for Christmas!! No batteries, either, just the charger. That only happened once, I might add. LOL

    Your bag is awesome!
