gluey glitch

handmade brooches and pendants by modflowersI started off really pleased with my progress yesterday.

I got out into the garden early and dug up lots of primroses to take to my friend’s house. They need spacing out you see, and we have run out of space as they have been multiplying like billy-o.

transplanting primrosesI just got done before the rain came down. Which entitled me to sit in the kitchen staring out at the gloom, drinking tea and feeling smug.

Then I got the glue out and set about sorting out pendants and brooches.

I use a two-part epoxy adhesive which takes five minutes to set and an hour to “cure”. It comes in a syringe affair and you press down the two plungers simultaneously to dispense equal quantities of resin and hardener. You then have five minutes to work like crazy before it sets.

epoxy glueOnly it didn’t.

I went off to make some lunch for lad, leaving my hard work to cure. But upon my return my buttons were not stuck. They could still be manouvred.

My smugness rapidly evaporated and was replaced by exasperation. What went wrong?

handmade jewelleryMy hardener nozzle had been partially blocked, that’s what. The stupid syringe-thingy had leaked smelly epoxy resin from one side, but gummed up almost entirely on the other. Useless packaging. Bah.

So I went online and ordered some new glue – which comes in separate bottles of epoxy and hardener – from the aptly-named shop4glue.com. No more syringes for me.

And no more rushing. This stuff gives you a whole hour of pfaff-time before it sticks firm. (Hopefully).

So, apologies to everyone that was hoping to see pendants or brooches appear in my shop over the weekend.

Once my glueing glitch is sorted I will be back on track.
