heroine addiction

modflowers stall at Sherwood Christmas Craft FairI’ve never really been the type to get star-struck.

I’ve never screamed at pop stars, or swooned at film stars or actors (apart from one short-lived but rather desperate crush, when very young, on Lewis Collins in The Professionals – but we’ll draw a veil swiftly over that).

I do, however, have heroes and heroines. People whose work and talents I admire hugely.

My heroines, it seems, are a bit like buses: you wait ages for one, and then yesterday, several turned up at once.

First up was local textiles heroine Rachel Ainley, organiser of yesterday’s craft fair, whose wares I was really looking forward to browsing. modflowers: Rachel Ainley TextilesAlas, I missed my chance, as once ensconced behind my stall I couldn’t get out again. But I did get to see Rachel in action as she organised yesterday’s craft fair. And a fine sight it was, too.

I pointed my other half in the direction of her stall with a heavy hint (well, more of an instruction really) that a purchase therefrom would not be unwelcome in my Christmas stocking. One can only hope.

So I was very flattered when Rachel bought one of my cushions for her home…

I’m hoping I have some money left to remedy that at Katrin’s upcoming studio sale, which is happening locally the day before I head off to meet my sis and family off the plane from Australia.

This one, to be precise:

For another local heroine of mine, Carly Dodsley, who also had a stall at the fair.

I invested some of my takings from last year’s Pretty Dandy Flea in one of Carly’s wonderful peacock plates.

So right now I am feeling a thoroughly warm glow. I love that people whom I admire so much seem to like what I do.

I’m not going to start screaming or swooning.

But might just allow myself a little secret smile. ♥

  1. Wow what a great post! Thanks for the heads up on some new (to me at least) talent.. It’s lovely when others you creatively respect want something you’ve made isn’t it… Cx

  2. I had a very short window of time free yesterday during a busy working day, but I did manage to use it & pop along to the craft fair, your stall looked wonderfully colourful & I too was struck by the range of local talent! I just wish I’d had longer to browse, when it wasn’t quite so busy! Keep up the lovely work!

    • I didn’t realise you were local to me nettynot! If you’re not so busy over the weekend of 30th November and 1st December you should come along to the Pretty Dandy Flea – not just for my stall, but the event is always fabulous!

  3. You’re one of mine! I don’t always get chance to comment but always read, and always love what you make! Life’s been very busy lately but I will try and pop over to see you in the new year! 🙂 xxx

    • Aww, thanks Ada! I hope you’re keeping well and enjoying your busyness. I am finding it hard to fit everything in at the moment and have fallen behind on my blog-reading – must catch up with yours soon! x

  4. You are hanging out in some very exalted company! Love Katrin Moye and Carly Dodsley’s work, how amazing to be selling alongside them, and to them! I am not at all surprised, your work is wonderful too. xx

  5. One of my favourite things about your is how modest you are about your talents! I look forward to the new year. Enjoy having your sister around x

    • This is one of my favourite fairs to do – so many brilliant makers! Eloise Renouf was there, and Ali Bee, plus many more.
There was also an outdoor food market, which I didn’t even get to see as they set up after me and had packed up by the time I got out! But I did sample some of the food – all of which was amazingly yummy!
