When I see photos like this, I know I do not have enough chairs in my life.
I always want more.
The only snag is, I already have too many chairs in my home.
I do try not to. I sold a set of six James Leonard Esavian chairs a while back.
They were bought to go in the kitchen, but instead ended up in the shed, as the fab Ercol table I won on ebay came with its own matching chairs that suit it so much better.
I also have not one, but four Kandya Jason chairs (the metal-legged variety) dotted about the house.
Another ebay bargain too good to resist, they were bought as a set to go around the dining table that became my sewing table.
So you could say they are a bit superfluous to requirements.
But aren’t they pretty?
I love them far too much to ever part with them.
Much to my partner’s despair.
I also have these two Eames lovelies, to which I am also rather attached…
Plus, a Peter Hvidt armchair that I haven’t quite yet got around to getting reupholstered and which serves as a good place to show off the odd vintage curtain.
However, despite my surfeit of seating, I would make room for any the following at the drop of a hat…
And that’s just the tip of my chair-love iceberg.
I could probably name a good few dozen more on my wish(bone) list…
Costly and not always comfortable, not everyone in my household finds my chair addiction endearing.
Or even understandable.
But there is one great thing that you may have noticed about having an incurable addiction to beautiful chairs…
There’s always somewhere to show off a vintage fabric cushion or two. ♥
You are indeed sitting pretty!
That should’ve been the post title!
these are all lovely:) Don’t forget I could help you with the re upholstering too as well as teaching textile classes & making stuff I run a Soft furnishings business inc upholstery & curtain/blind making:)
Ooh, thank you! I’m actually in two minds about reupholstering it… I have the fabric, but as it’s a design classic I wouldn’t feel happy about tackling it myself and am worried I’d de-value it by having it recovered.
Oh my … I’d swap them all for the 70’s hanging rattan chair at the top. Have yearned for one since my childhood. Sarah x
Me too! That’s one chair my partner agrees about – he really wants one! I’ve been looking, but have yet to find the perfect one at the perfect price. A Nanna Ditzel original costs nearly two grand!
I keep hoping one will turn up on ebay, but they’re all either too expensive, too knackered or too far away! There’s a lovely feature on Apartment Therapy about them that’s well worth drooling over…
I would die for any of those chairs. I’ve started collecting much less mod old wood chairs and am looking to make a garden instillation using them as planters. I was going to suggest that you use your extras that way, too, but after looking at them that would be sacrilege. Instead, I’d say you should just get a bigger house.
A girl can NEVER have too many chairs….and yours are fab! 🙂 x
Thank you Ada!
Either you and I were separated at birth or our partners were! Only yesterday we had a little exchange about the number of chairs populating the living and dining areas. (four too many in his opinion). I can’t resist chairs, and some of my favorites I’ve picked up by the road.
I used to be able to find stuff by the road or in skips, but nowadays everyone seems to have got much more savvy about what they throw out.
True! Yet I pulled a great old chair out of snow last year. Himself hates it, of course 🙂
Chair porn indeed!….my best ever skip find was a Lloyd Loom chair found at the back of my local Chinese takeaway……so of course I did as ordered and took it away! Ta dah!.
I’m amazed it survived! I take it it hadn’t been raining?!
It had been there a while…I assumed it couldn’t be the proper LL,or why discard it. Glad my curiosity got the better of me!
