I never had a patchwork quilt as a child, though I always wanted one.
I think it was probably Little House on the Prairie that set me off. I seem to remember they had patchwork quilts on their beds. That was back when patchwork wasn’t really a big thing in England.
My mum came late to sewing and made clothes, not quilts.
Although I’ve made a few quilts, I have never made lad one. He does have one on his bed, but it’s not one of mine.
Anyway, I’m rambling, by way of getting around to sharing my admiration for this amazing child’s quilt, made by Laurie Matthews.
I discovered it on the Ann Kelle website, from whose fabrics it is made, and of whom I am a huge fan.
Should you have the time and the inclination, there is a free tutorial to make this gorgeous quilt, here.
There’s also a matching boys’ version.
True, they’re not very Little House on the Prairie, but I’m sure that won’t put anyone off. ♥
Such pretty, bright colours, glad you’ve been inspired. So when do you start! 🙂
I never had one either, but I had a friend who had one her grandmother made her. It was all different colored squares and It made her bed feel twice as cozy as mine. It’s funny, back then it never occurred to me that anyone could learn to make something like that. It seemed mysterious, and only special people knew how. 😀 (Does that mean we’re special?)
Definitely!
