I ran up a couple of cushions yesterday.
I haven’t made any plain cushions (as opposed to character cushions) for a while, but having taken a peek at my stock it seemed that although I was well endowed in most areas, my vintage cushions were not so prolific.
First up is the sophisticate of the pair. You may remember that this lovely fabric started off as part of an unused linen cloth printed with four similar panels.
The linen is top quality, with that beautiful nubbly texture and slight sheen to it.
To do it justice I decided to add piping, despite the fact that it’s frankly a bit of a pain in the bum to do. I must like making a job for myself.
I think it was worth it though, as the finished cushion definitely has something of an air of the boudoir about it…I’d had the idea of using the second fabric for a cushion for some while. It’s a lovely Scandi cotton but has a few holes scattered about, so requires careful cutting.
At the last minute, after rummaging in my trim bag for stuff to pop into scrap packs, I decided it would benefit from some bobble trim.
Bobbles are also a pain in the bum to apply – they don’t half bobble about getting in your way when you’re trying to sew! But, I think, quite effective in jollifying the finished cushion.
We’ll see on Saturday whether my customers turn out to be jolly sorts or sophisticated types.
Or both.♥
These are fab! I like them both so I must be a bit jolly and sophisticated!!!
I do adore the bobbles with that fabric, but I also love the flowers and piping on the other. I feel it’s a good thing you’re so far away, or I’d be spending my fabric budget with you instead of at the patchwork shop….
I love the first one … not sure I’m that sophisticated though
They both look fab – I’ve yet to play with piping or bobbles – really must get more adventurous!
They are both a bit of a pain to be honest. But they look nice, so sometimes they are worth the hassle!
