learning to let go

modflowers: scrap pileA blog friend of mine asked me a favour recently.

Did I have any scraps I could share with her, for a project she is embarking upon?

Hmmm, well, yes… I do have a few…

modflowers: scrap bagThis is my main scraps bag.

I drop all potentially-useful-but-discarded-for-the-moment bits into it as I work.

Then I pull them out again. The bag is often up-ended and the contents strewn all over the floor, rummaged through, then stuffed back in again.

The big piece of fabric draped down the side is actually very misleading. Most of the contents of this bag are itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny bits.

Consequently, when it came to fulfilling the favour, I found it really surprisingly hard to let go of any of my scrap stash.

But being a meany isn’t nice. I have more than once been on the receiving end of the generosity of others.

And, as I have said before, I am not a hoarder.

So basically, I have given myself a jolly good talking to. ♥

  1. I feel a contented life is all about good flow… there is joy both in giving and recieving. That’s why I love swapping… instant giving and receiving… loving that big bit hanging out of the bag… what is it? Cass x

    • I don’t have a name for that bit Cass, it was a very small pair of (caravan?) curtains. No selvedge to identify it.

  2. The scraps will be very much enjoyed, and given new life in a way they never dreamed they could! (because even scraps have dreams …). And I have something for you too, but it’s a bit bigger than a scrap xxx

    • I know Sue, and now I’ve got over the hurdle of letting go of them I’m very glad to send them! It’s good to overcome my greedy / hoarding / selfish (delete as appropriate!) instincts! They’ll be in the post some time in the next few days – it’s lad’s birthday, so I am busy with sleepovers, party plans and entertaining 11 year-old-boys 🙂
And there’s really no need to send me anything!

  3. I get it! It’s hard. YET, I think I have about six bins brimming with scraps. Kind of embarrassing. I either need to sit my buns down and sew for 18 days straight or send some of these babies out into the world. You’ve inspired me to send little bundles off to some friends. 🙂
