It’s funny how things find you.
I went along to Mrs Bertimus’s workshop with no expectation of any sort of fabric-buying shenanigans going on.
Consequently, I did not take along a lot of spare dosh. Silly me.
So it was just as well that Louise let me pay her later, when I got home. Because I just couldn’t have passed up these two beauties, not after they had taken the trouble to find me when I wasn’t even looking…
The top fabric is called “Lisa”. It was designed by Bridget Swabey for Moygashel and is one of my favourite designs. Thus far, I had managed to obtain only little bits of it.
The bottom fabric I don’t have a name for, but it is still rather splendiferous I’m sure you’ll agree.
Of course, I wanted to buy all of Mrs Bertimus’s wares as well, but the one I particularly had my eye on is somewhat beyond my means just at the moment.
I may have to have a word with Santa…
My “made” I’m not 100% happy with.
One thing I find at workshops is that the grass on other people’ tables is always greener.
Other people always have nicer materials, better ideas and more successful results than my own. Or so I always think.
I do quite like my little sausage dog though…
But I am less enamoured of my vintage lady…
Firstly, she kept fibbing to me about being “ready”, and going all ghostly on me.
Then, she came out a bit sickly, because I forgot that if I painted the background green it would also make her complexion green.
Finally, once done, she was just too…. mimsy for my taste. Too cutesy and pretty and vintagey, like an old chocolate box lid.
So I showed her what’s what and gave her a ‘tache.
Only I did it quickly at the last minute, and instead of being curly and luxuriant as I had wished, it just looked like someone had graffitied her upper lip.
Then there was my wooden block…
Which has found a home on the mantelpiece.
Although I wanted that to be better than it was, too.
Later on, I was amazed and surprised when Louise gave me a lovely gift to take home.
These vintage wallpaper pieces, found on her travels in a little shop in Wales, are just gorgeous…
So that’s what I bought, made and was gifted at the weekend.
But of course, they’re not the only things I took home with me.
There are those pretties, and then there’s a whole headful of other good stuff too. â„
Love that ‘tache!!
