I seem to keep getting asked to take photos for friends at the moment.
This is in spite of my somewhat ancient basic point-and-shoot camera and woeful lack of Photoshop photo-editing skills.
But I’m not one to turn down a friend in need – or pass up a fun project.
So yesterday, I helped create some product photos of new work by a local textile artist friend of mine, Ali Bee.
Ali teaches both adults and youngsters in all things textile. She tutored me in my first steps in dressmaking and has an enviable range of textile and print skills.
Seeing her – and her work – is always fun. And, not that I have ulterior motives or anything, but having a friend who is a font of textile knowledge is a handy thing indeed!
She is certainly a worthy inclusion in my occasional series featuring Nottingham creatives.
Ali has been experimenting recently with cyanotype, a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. You can find out a bit more about the process here.
I have to say, I am definitely a fan. The colour blue features pretty heavily in my home and wardrobe, and Ali’s prints, on paper and fabric, were a joy to behold.
We also had great fun pulling together props from garden and cupboards to create these images.
Ali’s new work will be on sale at The Secret Garden Craft Fair, with online sales to follow: to keep up to date, pop over to her blog.
And if you are interested in buying Ali’s work or finding out about her workshops, parties, work in schools or individual commissions, she can be contacted via her website. ♥
I’ve always wanted to try cyanotype printing! Anything that needs sunshine to work is good with me… Lovely work, and great styling on your part!
