I am a person who loves colour.
But often I am wont to use, perhaps, too many colours. To add just one more thing to that thing that is perfectly fine just as it is.
Which is possibly why I really really like sashiko. No, not the raw fish stuff, but the Japanese art of folk embroidery using basic running stitch.
Sashiko is subtle. Ordered. Restrained.
It is like a minimalist version of embroidery.
Both colour palette and technique are simple, yet it is everything that I cannot be, and do not do.
So consequently, in my contrary way, I absolutely love it. ♥
me too
I’d like to see a modflowers version, with restrained, disciplined white stitching on a bright turquoise or pink background….
Great idea! I love it when old and new get all mixed up!
I’d have to work on the neatness of my stitching first though, as I’m not sure I could be disciplined enough to stick to those regimented geometric patterns and get them perfectly accurate!
A washable quilt marking pencil and a ruler ought to help… Seriously, start with something smallish – I think it would look amazing!
really like this – reminds me of the Kantha embroidery although it’s actually more simplistic. Really love it
