As is often the case these days, I stumbled across the above amazing bit of stitchery on Pinterest.

It, and the other works pictured in this post, are by the hugely talented Sue Stone.

As a fan of old photographs and a lover of all types of stitchery, her work is obviously a huge hit with me.

I love the way she turns simple stitching techniques into something extraordinary.

Born in Grimsby, Sue studied Fashion at St Martins School of Art and then Embroidery at Goldsmiths College in London in the 1970s.

As she says herself, her work “combines the real, the imagined, the remembered, and sometimes the nonsensical, with a slightly surreal sense of humour”.

As a perfect illustration of this, her blog is called Woman With A Fish.
