prototype pouch

modflowers: vintage fabric pouch bagI love this time of year.

Not only is it warm (well, sort of!) which means that my bones don’t ache so much, but now that the craft fair is over the pressure’s off for a while, so I get time to experiment with making new things.

I thought I’d try out my bag-making skills on a new design.

modflowers: vintage fabric pouch bagI like the fabric envelopes I made before, but I wanted to make something with a bitĀ biggerĀ capacity.

Still small and dinky, but with slightly moreĀ “heft” to itĀ –Ā more of a mini-bag or pouch than a purse. A bag-ette, so to speak.

So I tried out a design with aĀ gusset, and used the last of my bits of bag hardware (left over from makingĀ cat bags yonks ago) to finish it off.

Oh, and I topstitched with neon thread (which I rather love).

It needs a few tweaks, but I think it turned out well.

Although, I did manage to chop the strapĀ in half after a brainstorm over how long it needed to be.

In fact, the making experience went a bit, well, like this…

modflowers: creative processBut all’s well that ends well.

modflowers: pouch bagI might not actually go so far as to describe the finished article as awesome.

But then, I’m British.

Which means that even if my bagĀ is awesome, I’m just not made that way.Ā ā™„

    • Thanks Sarah! Still experimenting… but definitely need to source some suitable heftier interfacing (this pouch turned out a bit floppier than I’d like it to be) and some better snap fasteners.

  1. You may not feel able to describe it as awesome, but we can. And besides, I’m not proper British any more, and Australians are allowed to say things like that…. So, it’s awesome. And cute and pretty and useful.

  2. Well I think it’s Awesome! The pink and red flower on the front really pops, I can’t take my eyes off it.
Loving the use of different fabric on the inside. I think we must see this bag in action, it needs to be taken out and shown off. Have fun with it! x
