say it with fabric

modflowers: thank you fabricsI have a confession to make.

I have never been quite as good as I should be at saying thank you.

Once, when I was a child, our grumpy next-door neighbour passed me in the street and asked if I liked my present. To which I replied “what present?”

In my defence, this was partly because I was gobsmacked that she had spoken to me (an occurrence as rare as hen’s teeth) and partly because my mum hadn’t yet actually given me the present to which she referred.

But still. With hindsight I realise that I should just have said “yes, thank you very much” and left it at that.

modflowers: thank you fabricsAs a parent, I seem to have inherited from my own parents’ example a tendency towards being a tad remiss at making lad write his thank you notes.

And often I forget to return favours, or to thank people for the nice things they do for me. Because, well, I’m forgetful and frankly a bit rubbish, mainly.

But not everyone is as slack as I.

Yesterday, Anna Treliving, about whom I previously shared a blog post, found me at the craft fair to give me a thank you present for doing so.

Lovely fabrics…

modflowers: thankyou fabricmodflowers: thankyou fabricmodflowers: thankyou fabricI’m pretty certain I don’t deserve them.

I’m also pretty certain I didn’t deserve quite such a telling-off as the one I got from my mum, following grumpy neighbour’s report-back on my behaviour.

I’m less certain that my slackness on the thank you front is about to change…

But I promise to try harder in future. ♥
