I have to admit it, I’m a bit of a scavenger.
In the past I have been spotted lugging choice items out of skips, back in the days when people were a bit less savvy about what they threw away. And I have been a devoted thrifter for decades. Long before it was even called thrifting.
I hate waste and try never to throw away stuff that a use could be found for.
Anyway, the nice people at Singapore Airlines gave us several of these on the plane home from Australia:
They came with a toothbrush, a tiny tube of toothpaste and a pair of socks inside. How thoughtful! And useful on a long flight!
And just fancy them being designer – Givenchy, no less!
But let’s face it, those zip bags may be practical, but they are not pretty. Someone at Givenchy should be ashamed really. I can’t imagine Audrey Hepburn coveting one of those.
However, hating the waste as they lay scattered about discarded whilst the passengers disembarked, I gathered up a few more, with a spot of upcycling in mind.
A bit of appliqué, a bit of stitchery and, I think, it looks much better. Hopefully, Monsieur Givenchy would be pleased.
I have a few more to have a go at – this one is just the prototype first attempt.
The original zip pouch is tucked inside and makes a good water-resistant lining. So as well as being pretty, it makes a practical and stain-resistant makeup bag.
But you’ll have to scavenge your own socks to put inside.
With this cold weather, I’m keeping those. 🙂
NIce job!! I’m the same, can’t bring myself to throw something away if I think I can find a use for it…love the freehand stitched leaf! x
Did you spot your mirror peeping out Rachel?
I love that you did that!!
I used to be a stewardess for British Airways…. at the end of a flight you could find me scooping up the unused bags for keeping ‘useful’ things in….usually in first class mind!!!!
x
And you’ve just given me an idea – planning things to keep my 8 and 4 year old girls occupied on a 7 hour flight soon – we shall make flight-sock puppets!! If I take some old socks and adhesive felt shapes and googly eyes, we can make them, play with them, AND wear them – and its a toy to play with on holiday too! Thanks for the ‘Lightbulb Moment’, Ms Modflowers! x
Wow, I can’t take any credit for that brilliant idea Sue! Might have to adapt it myself though – I do have rather a lot of those flight socks and they’re not very pretty either!
Great idea and I love what you’ve created. So pretty.
Ohhh!! Wooow! I LOVE this little purse!!
