I love the idea of Ann Wood’s scrap festival. Because let’s face it, what fabric addict doesn’t love getting a bag of scraps in the post – and for free?!
All you had to do to join in with the scrap festival swap was to sign up (now closed – I got in just in time!) and wait for Ann to send details of your scrap swap partner, then sort them out an 8 ounce bag of fabric scraps, send it off in the mail and sit back and wait for your scraps to arrive in return.
I was thrilled to discover that my swap partner is a wonderful artist – Laura Poulette, who lives in Kentucky, USA. I immediately sought her out online, hoping to get a sense of what she might like. Wow – her work is fabulous!
This, of course, immediately sent me into a bit of a tailspin attempting to second-guess what I should put in her scrap bundle. In the end though, I just ended up picking what I liked!
This is what I sent…And this is what I received in return…What I’ll make with my new scraps remains to be seen…
I’ve been finding the creative muse an elusive creature since Christmas. For the first time in a long time, fabric hasn’t been inspiring me.
Perhaps it’s because I haven’t actually had any new fabric though? The thrill of the new (or at least, new to me) is often what inspires new creations.
Having lots of fabric already and no money to buy more has meant that I’ve been trying to sort through and rationalise what I already have. I’ve steered clear of the charity shops (aided by the foul weather), stayed indoors and saved money.
Anyway, this lovely package couldn’t have come at a better time!
I’ve gone back to working with paper clay this past week – and made a couple of little bunnies, of which this is the first one..I think there may be a few more to follow. It’s a good job my dolls are so tiny – I foresee outfits fashioned from some of those lovely scraps!
You can follow the scrap festival on Instagram via the hashtag #scrapfestival2020. Do feel free to join in by posting and tagging your scrappy makes.
Now, what are you going to make from the contents of your scrap bag? ♥
With scraps, my problem has never been inspiration or supply, more about the time to execute my ideas. Still, I’ve brought two scrappy projects on holiday with me in te hope of actually making visible progress. Strictly between us, I find yours much more inspirational and appealing than the ones you received…
Ahh, but that’s the beauty of the swap Kate! I’m over the moon to have got something completely different from the majority of what resides in my stash! My top favourites are that pink and blue vintage feedsack quilt block, and the tiniest piece of all – that little square of deepest darkest indigo linen.
I will keep popping over to your blog in the hope of seeing the results of your scrappy projects! Scraps have always been my favourite – a scrappy quilt was the first thing I ever chose to sew myself (I’m not counting stuff sewn at school which wasn’t my choice).
