Autumn is one of my least favourite times of year.
Oh, I know all that stuff about mellow fruitfulness, misty mornings and kicking through leaves sounds nice, and I suppose it has its charms.
But I dread the onset of winter. I hate the cold. It slows me down, puts aches in my bones and makes me miserable.
However, the thing I dislike in particular about this time of year is the transition right about now from bare feet and sandals back to shoes and socks.
I haven’t done it yet. And frankly, I’m dreading it.
I never thought that I would be the type of girl to become, in middle age, a woman with gnarly, achey, painful feet. But it seems my grandmother and her bunions had other ideas.
The thought of re-enclosing my feet after a sockless summer in Birkenstocks is horrible. But necessary, if I’m to avoid adding chilblains to my list of podiatric woes.
I have been trying to cheer myself up by promising myself at least one really nice pair of socks. My partner swears by bamboo ones and they certainly do feel nice and soft.
But they’re just not pretty enough for my tastes.
Unlike these socks from French company Bonne Maison, which are so pretty that I am tempted to invest in some.
Despite the price of a pair (24 €!) being nearly enough to blow your socks off. ♥
Those sock are FABULOUS, what a great find! I agree the price is pretty steep, but you’d keep them for best, wouldn’t you, not for hiding under jeans or inside boots. The only socks I wear these days are the shorties for inside trainers, all else being far too hot. But our weather isn’t kind to feet – at least, the sort of hot weather we have here, despite the pleasure of wearing sandals all year…
I know what you mean, sandals and very hot weather do bring their own “issues” (swollen ankles and split heels – ugh! – in my case).
… and mine, alas. And one has to keep the toes beautifully groomed if they’re always on display.
I’m not very good at that! Although I did actually get round to painting my toenails this summer!
Oh I love those socks too! I’m in Birkenstock sandals all summer too except when I’m doing exercise walking/hiking. I confess I do have a couple pair of Birkis that I wear with socks in the fall/winter around the house and maybe for a quick trip to the store.
I do have three pairs of Birkenstock clogs for wearing around the house during wintertime! For outdoors I’m also considering a pair of these too:
I’m in Birkies summer and winter – love them to bits – all other shoes hurt my feet! You can get some very colourful numbers – I have a v cool and now v battered pair with a pyschedelic 60s print on them – I’m never going to part with them!
I have some psychedelic patterned clogs Zoë! And some – very grubby and battered – flowery ones, and a black pair too! I agree – they’re the only shoes that don’t hurt my feet too!
