stalled

modflowers: etsy made local stallOh dear, oh dear.

I confess, I can’t quite believe that it’s been a whole ten days since my last blog post.

My camera, as you can probably tell from these slightly blurry, not-quite-up-to-their-usual-standard photos, is not playing nicely. I am thinking it is time to save up some pennies for a replacement.

And my phone memory is chock-a-block, so much so that every time I want to take a (blurry, grainy, rubbishy) picture with my phone camera, I have to delete something off my phone first. Which is pants.

And then, I lost my data cable. So I couldn’t get any photos off my camera at all.

Despite the fact that I only ever use it in two places (at the kitchen table, or sitting on the sofa) said vital cable went walkabout and has yet to re-emerge from whichever hidey-hole in which it has concealed itself.

Add to that a week of fighting off the flu, and the result was over a week of no blogging.

But on Saturday I felt much better, just in time to pack up my wares for the Etsy Made Local fair in Nottingham.

Which was a really good do…

modflowers: Etsy Made Local, NottinghamIt was very busy. The photo above (my stall is out of shot) does not do it justice in terms of sheer numbers of punters through the door.

And the stalls were peopled with lots of very talented makers and sellers.

I didn’t get much time to take pics, just a quick whizz round at the end, but here are a few of my favourite things from the fair (apologies on behalf of my misbehaving camera…)

modflowers: original textile art by blue stiggyI bought a brooch from Blue Stiggy as a gift a while back, and maker Michaela came over to say hello, having seen my dolls online.

I told her how I really love her embroidered stuff, and we were discussing this and that, and she gave me a couple of brooch settings as I had admired the one used in the brooch I had bought.

How nice is that?
modflowers: treasure pouches by blue stiggyIt was also great to meet stallholders whose work I have only ever seen on t’interweb.

Like Delphine and Max, whose pure white porcelain creations are just lovely. Simple and perfect.

Delphine also shares my taste in vintage fabrics, and indulged in a couple of purchases from my stall – thanks Delphine!modflowers: delphine & maxmodflowers: delphine and maxI also rather fell for Thursday Jewellery’s handmade bracelets and necklaces…bibf thursday jewelleryAlways good to find new local makers of lovely things.

There were, of course, so many other great stalls, but my photographs are somewhat lacking, so apologies to all those whom I’ve missed out – there were over 40 stalls in all, so it’s a lot.

Special thanks go to my immediate neighbours Woolf Vintage and Arts and Darwin Designs, for providing a great bit of banter that made the day even more fun.

The customers, all but one, were kind too.

There was only one lady who forgot her manners this time, standing in front of me and proclaiming to her friend “This doesn’t appeal to me AT ALL,” as though a table and three feet of thin air somehow made her inaudible.

But it was a rare blip of irritation in an otherwise most enjoyable day.

I will be back tomorrow with more bloggy stuff.

Now that I am no longer stalled. ♥

  1. What fun that must have been. And how frustrating to be so far away…. I particularly love the embroidered piece. And as for the rude lady, well, clearly she’s had a taste and tact bypass, poor thing, and can’t have too many friends.

  2. Ooooh, what a lovely blog, it looks so gorgeous, thankyou so much for the big fat mention, I would love to see what you put in your brooch fixings. It was a brilliant market wasn’t it? really hope i see you again soon.

    • Thanks bluestiggy! I have a lovely web-designer friend help me set up the blog when I went self-hosted (he did all the techie stuff but all the design choices are mine!).
Yes, it was a fab market. The venue was really good I thought, and the organisation was superb. Hats off to Bird in Borrowed Feathers! Hope to see you again too, although I don’t do that many fairs having had my fingers burned in previous years.
