Today is my penultimate stash story.
Number fourteen is a relatively recent purchase.
It’s a little bit faded, but lovely and soft from being washed many times.
I bought it because it is said to be designed by Genia Sapper, who also produced “Heidi”, perhaps the best known of all the 60s-vintage mod flower fabrics.
Although this isn’t one of my favourite ever designs, it does have a certain groovy something.
This fabric is one that I have no immediate plans for. I have a lot like that.
I call them stash-stuffers.
I don’t think this is a valuable fabric in monetary terms, as it is not well-known. But that’s not ever why I buy fabrics.
I do buy fabrics for which I have a project in mind.
Sometimes.
But more often than that, I buy what makes my pulse race.
I buy what makes my heart sing, and what makes my fingers itch to stitch.
I buy what I love. ♥
I have a large piece of Gretel by Genia Sapper ( my mother made curtains for well heeled folk) but I can’t find any reference to it on the Internet. Do you know this fabric?
I am keen to sell it but not sure how much it could be worth
Hi Pat, I’m afraid I wouldn’t know how much it was worth. As with all vintage fabrics, it’s worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it! The name Genia Sapper is quite well known due to the popularity of her Heidi fabric, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that your Gretel fabric will sell for a high price. Normally people decide how much they are prepared to let a fabric go for, and set a reserve at that price when selling on eBay or at auction. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
