summer sewing

summer dreaming1Last year, I didn’t do any sewing at all over the summer.

I wanted to be outdoors every possible minute. And it was great.

But I have decided that this year, I will not give up sewing entirely over the summer.

I have decided to try some new things – and to make some things for me. To be a bit experimental. To get my inspiration on.

So here are my summer sewing dreams…

First up, I would like to have a go at making a wrap skirt like the one pictured above. I bought the vintage one below recently and I like the fit, and the comfort, and I want to have a go at replicating it.

modflowers: wraparound skirtI also want to make something for the house. Coasters look like a quick make, and I could do with replacing the nasty cork ones we use at the moment. Our Ercol coffee table will thank me for it, I’m sure.

I’m going to make them up from the best bits of my scrap bag, backed in felt and modelled on these ones from Cotton & Flax

summer dreaming2I’m also going to make the lovely fat quarter I bought from Rachel into a new cushion for the sofa.

And finally, I want to make a start on a new quilt.

I haven’t quite decided what quilt design to do yet. But just the thought of pulling out lots of lovely fabrics from my stash is already making me happy.

I love summer. Indoors or out.

What are your summer sewing plans?

Did I hear someone mutter “busman’s holiday?” ♥

  1. Summer’s half a year away for me, but it’s going to be more of the same. Spending time outside in the height of summer in the tropics is just penitential, so I’m always glad to scoot back indoors and enjoy a blast of cool air from the aircon while I whizz away at the latest project.

    • I know the feeling! It was so hot on Christmas day at my sister’s in Queensland when we were there last that we spent the whole afternoon hiding away in the bedroom (the one room with aircon)!
And one morning in their old house in Redcliffe I got sunburnt hanging out the washing at 9am!

      • Mind you, I could do with a bit of that today. It is drizzling and windy and grey out there and I’ve got to walk for half an hour down the hill through the park. Should’ve gone yesterday, it was lovely then!
