modflowers: robert stewart textile designsNow, I know what you’re going to say…

My thing is florals. Specifically 1960s and 1970s florals, right?

So what am I doing writing about 1950s designs? Eh?

Well, Robert Stewart is a designer whose work breaks through my flowery obsession.

He is up there in the realms of greatness, both epitomising and transcending his era (alongside Lucienne Day, Stig Lindberg, Charles and Ray Eames and a few more). His designs are classics.

And floral obsession or no, I am in love with them.

Because original examples of his designs are rarer than hen’s teeth these days and consequently cost an arm, a leg – and probably part of a torso too.

And my heart did another little skip when I read that Mid Century Magazine and Living Union are running a giveaway for a chance to win one of Robert Stewart’s designs printed on a tea towel.

One of these four spectacular reissues from the 1950s, to be precise:

All you have to do to be in with a chance to win is share this article (not my blog post – though you’re welcome to share that too!) and tag Midcentury Magazine on either Facebook or Twitter before midnight on September 16th.

Along with the work of other long-forgotten British mid-century textile designers in the Glasgow School of Art catalogue, plus complementary designs from contemporary designers.

The Robert Stewart collection will launch at the Home London show this month and will afterwards likely be available via The Lollipop Shoppe.

Can’t wait! ♥
