So at long last my apple skirt is finished!
And I mean properly finished – with a hook and eye and finished seams and everything.
I am really pleased with it. And the learning journey has been fun too! Though I have to admit, learning from one’s mistakes might be useful but it’s lovely to have a dressmaking success at last to show for my hard work.
I made a ric rac flower brooch for it, which can either be popped on the pocket or pinned elsewhere on an outfit to compliment the skirt. Can you spot it on my cardi in the first photo?
My tutor even decided to photograph my efforts, to use in the poster she’s putting together for her summer skirt-making workshop.
Which made me very proud indeed.
And just to prove that it does actually fit, here’s me wearing it!
I have two more weeks of sewing class left in which to undertake another dressmaking project.
It’s not long, but I have the inkling of an idea…
It could be time to mess up that fabric stash cupboard again! 🙂
That looks fantastic, no wonder it’s going to promote the workshops! 🙂
SOOOOOO gorgeous!! Well done you. You have inspired me, I want to take the plunge and make myself some clothes…going to get myself a copy of that lovely book too, xx
If I have one tip to offer on the dressmaking front, it’s start simple. It’s so disheartening to waste time and fabric on things that don’t work or don’t fit. A simple top or skirt is a perfect first project.
That looks fab…go girl!….nice to get a glimpse of you too….(not in a weird way! ) glad you stuck with it. Am loving my book by the way x
I’m always a bit reticent to appear in my own photos – I don’t like looking at pictures of me!
I’m glad the book is a hit – what are you going to make next?
Am currently sewing a dress that was cut out in the70s and only ever tacked together….found in a stash of fabulousness I was given…u just got first hint of my next blog!
I love it when things like that happen – looking forward to seeing it finished!
I love it! I’m not surprised your tutor is pleased too… I’m tentatively feeling my way into making some clothes for myself too. What pattern did you use?
Love your blog! Smiles Cass x
Thanks Cass! I used a pattern that I traced from my sewing tutor. She and I happen to be the same size. I think it was an old Butterick pattern.
Gorgeous and very inspiring … I am getting the itch to have a go at some dressmaking too … looking forward to seeing your next make … Bee xx
What a success. Truely lovely. I going to try out a skirt from the GBSB book as my second dressmaking project.
I love it! it was definitely worth all of the hard work!
Gorgeous x
Great job…you are an inspiration! Someday I will get there…. 🙂
Honestly, I’ve mucked up two projects in a row before this skirt, but it pays to keep on trying, it’s the only way to improve!
Hello! Very impressed – it’s gorgeous!
Thank you!
It just doesn’t get any better than that…Love it!
