A few years ago, I admit, I used to have a bit of an addiction.
Nothing too seedy, don’t worry.
For a while, I devoted many hours to it, sometimes at the expense of family harmony.
But it did more-or-less furnish our home, and provided me with a good proportion of my fabric collection, so it wasn’t all bad by any means.
Eventually though, I got bored of Ebay.
It mainly lost it’s appeal due to unscrupulous sellers supplying the shoddy, the stained and the shattered-in-transit.
And now that everyone’s savvy to the splendours of secondhand, Ebay doesn’t really seem to offer much in the way of bargains any more, so I tend to steer clear.
But I did allow myself a little look over the weekend. A small indulgence, a mini peek-ette, just to squint at what I might be missing.
And sure enough, there were still textile temptations a-plenty (click on the photos for the source)…
I managed to resist all of those – and more. I know. My willpower is supreme.
Then we went to Leicester for Sunday lunch – a vegetarian all-you-can-eat curry buffet. Its one of our favourite treats.
And as we walked off our (over)indulgence, we passed by one of my favourite vintage shops, Dolly Mix Vintage.
It’s always been closed when we’ve passed by before on a Sunday, but this time it was open. So I just had to pop in.
And there, on the counter, was this pile of loveliness…
And suddenly, my willpower crumbled to dust, and these came home with me…
They are unused, dead stock 1970s cotton pillowcases, the continental type (so, as well as gorgeous they are huge)…
You can say what you like about the temptations of online shopping.
But for me, the fact is that when it comes to textile temptations, there’s just no resisting the real thing when it’s right there in front of you. ♥
Wow, those pillowcases are wonderful! You’ll get lots of use out of them, I’m sure! Wish we had all the little shops here that you have.
Have fun sewing!
Those pillowcases are fabulous! What a great find! 🙂
