Last week, at the end of my business advice session, my advisor left me with a creativeĀ challenge.
“Make something that you wouldn’t normally expect to see made from fabric” he said.
I knew what he was up to – the real challenge was to think more creatively about what I was doing and approach it in a new, less limited way.
So I went home and thought about what on earth I could make that wouldn’t normally be made from fabric.
After considering – and then dismissing – all sorts of possibilities, I was watching this YouTube video with lad when the idea came to me to make some fabric sausages.
I’d watched with a sort of horrid fascination asĀ the contestants on Masterchef made sausages just the other day. (Though obviously, theirs weren’t made from fabric).
I’d got as far as stitching a tube and starting to stuff it when lad remarked “it looks like fingers”.
SoĀ that’s what I decided to make instead.
Perhaps I ought to make another one, with HATE on the knuckles.
And it only occurred to me afterwards that it’sĀ hand made!
Of course, I couldn’t resist a bit of embellishment.
I rather like the fact that it’s turned out kind of creepy, in a cute sort of way.
The fabric, being nylon, even feels creepily skin-like to the touch. (I keep threatening to stroke lad’s face with it while he’s asleep.)
My advisor will probably think I’m a complete nutter. ā„
If you’re wondering about the post title, it’s a reference to a vintage horror film I watched with my dad as a child. You can see the trailer for itĀ here.Ā ā„
It’s definitely creepy, but not as bizarre as the first thing that leapt to my mind when I read that challenge. I mean, a fabric teacup and saucer…? It must be the tea cosy I made a while back that put it in my head. Your hand has a sort of gypsy zombie Hand of Power feel to it – you could probably curse or cure someone with it! I think it’s the meticulously sewn on fingernails that I find most disturbing!
Haha! I have achieved my aim!
My partner thinks it should have pins stuck in it! š
I did think of the cup and saucer idea, but then I remembered that Miwary already makes them – they are beautiful, I saw them in the flesh at Selvedge last year. She makes them into fascinators, so you can wear one on your head!
She also has an etsy shop.
You mean I’m not alone in my madness…? That’s a gorgeous cup and saucer!
the title is displaying as “the beast with ive ingers” here !
Ooer! I’ve checked and it looks fine to me, both on my phone and on the computer, and via the WordPress reader, bloglovin’, etc. How / where are you viewing the site Riva?
just by clicking on the link using my iPad . . I’ll check on the laptop later :0)
should say link to blog on facebook status !
Sorry about that. The alternative “mobile” theme should look the same on both iPads and phones. It looks ok on my phone, so I’m not sure what’s wrong.
Bloomin’ iPads! Can’t get on with ours!
