the cat’s whiskers

I didn’t go to sewing class yesterday.  I have a sore throat and a hideous hacking cough and didn’t feel up to the half hour walk across the snowy park to get there.

So I stayed at home, drank tea, and tried out a cushion idea I’ve had brewing for a while.

This is the result. What do you think?

I call him Banbury cat, after the fabric from which he is made that arrived yesterday morning: a recent bargain purchase of an unusual pastel colour variation of Banbury fabric, designed by Colleen Farr for Heals in the 1960s.

He has eyes in my last tiny remnant of yellow Verdure fabric, with black vintage button pupils, a pink felt-backed nose and an embroidered mouth.

I rather like his slightly knowing but hopeful expression.

I have just one dilemma: does Banbury cat need whiskers?

Most of the time I think he is fine as he is.

But every so often I sort of wonder – does his face look a little naked without them?

  1. Ah I love him! I think he’s great as he is…but I know what you mean about not being 100% sure! Maybe you could lay embroidery thread out across his cheeks and see how he looks with them? Just so you feel sure…well done though he’s great. Hope you feel better soon! x
