Hello…I hope you’re having a lovely Sunday, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. It’s been raining here so we’ve had a cosy and lazy afternoon, but thankfully we managed to get out in the sunshine this morning.
It’s my last guest post today, and after working our way through a rainbow of vintage Heals fabrics, we reach purple. If like me you grew up in the 70s, you may well recognise today’s fabric…it’s called Treetops. (Sorry about the shadowy photo – it’s been a rubbish week for taking pictures . )
I’m sure we had friends with curtains in this fabric when I was young, in the more commonly seen colourway of classic 70s greens, yellows and browns. Where Petrus was Art Deco in inspiration, Treetops is pure Art Nouveau.
I’d never seen the purple version till it appeared on Ebay one day, and I fell in love. The colours, the way the stylised pattern evokes a landscape, the way I was transported back in time when I looked at it; all these combined to make me yearn. Sometimes I resist the urge to buy a piece of fabric – it’s hard but necessary – we have kids to feed, and they need somewhere to sleep too!
But this time I gave in, and I’m glad I did. I used a little bit for my rainbow quilt, but the rest is untouched…for now. I promised a bit to Donna Flower for her personal collection so I’ll have to take my scissors to it soon!
I have really enjoyed this week of guest blogging. It’s been a great excuse for taking a closer look at some of my favourite fabrics, and thinking about the roots of my love for pattern and colour. If you enjoyed my waffling on about fabric here this week, you might enjoy reading my ramblings over here too.
The lovely Jen of Little Birdie is taking over here tomorrow – I love her blog and she takes wonderful photos so I’m looking forward to seeing what she’s got in store for us!
Wishing you a happy festive season,
Rachel x
You picked a real treasure for the end of the rainbow Rachel! I love this fabric. I have a cushion on my sofa in this that I bought on Ebay, but would love to see a set of curtains in it!
It is lovely isn’t it? I’ve got one big curtain of it but it wasn’t quite big enough for any of our windows so I had a good excuse to cut it up. I’m going to make some cushion covers out of it, I think the scale of the pattern works really well for that purpose.
I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my posts Sharon, I’ve really enjoyed being a guest blogger! I hope you’re having a fabulous time with your sister. xx
Thank you – and thanks for all your lovely posts x
My trip has certainly been pretty fabulous so far!
