thrifts of the day

modflowers: thrifty findsYesterday dawned bright but cold – the perfect weather for a stomp down to Sherwood.

I’ve had some of my best thrifty finds in Sherwood. Although, recently the charity shops lost some of their appeal after numerous fruitless trips.

There are, as I know only too well, a lot of thrifty bargain hunters to compete with in Sherwood.

So lets just say that expectations were not high.

But as you can tell from the picture above, expectations are there to be confounded.

modflowers: vintage flannelette sheetMy first and favourite find was a brand new and unused set of double sheet and two matching pillowcases.

To be honest, my eye was first caught by a snazzy bright orange floral set next to them – but fluffy blue cotton flannelette won out over scratchy bri-nylon.

The orange beauties stayed in the shop to make some other lucky thrifter’s day. And it wasn’t long before I found an orange alternative – this time in cotton…

A pair of pillowcases, for mere pennies.

modflowers: vintage pillowcasesMy luck continued with some embroidered napery, always welcome in my stash.

Especially at less than a pound a piece…

modflowers: vintage naperyAnd there was a buy-one-get-one-free offer on vintage beads, just in case that additional 50p was beyond my budget…

modflowers: vintage beadsTo round my trip off (and warm myself up!) I treated myself to a bowl of delicious Mexican hotpot for lunch at Kiosk before heading home.

I was home in time for the afternoon repeat of The Archers, footsore but sated.

A good morning’s thrifting. ♥

  1. I confess to the heresy of not enjoying patterned bedding… My love affair with white, 1,000+ thread count cotton is ongoing, and incurable. I do have one set in a very pale, almost lilacy grey, but I keep returning to the white stuff. Before I emigrated to Oz, I had a huge cupboard full of vintage white bedlinen, particularly embroidered, ruffled, monogrammed and lace trimmed pillowcases. They were given to friends as part of my divestment, and I regret them greatly. There was a fabulous vintage linens shop in Haworth which received a lot more than its fair share of my hard earned – don’t know if it’s still there, but I think you’d feel right at home!

    • I also have white bedding on my bed! Although I do occasionally succumb to a patterned cotton set. But my room now has enough pattern in it without adding more on the bed – they eye needs a place to rest as well as my weary body!
