Well, after a flurry of activity, I’m panicking a little less about getting everything done in time for the weekend.
Yesterday was a day of surprises. The main one being that a couple of plumbers, booked to look at our dodgy boiler and leaky shower, turned up nearly two hours earlier than I expected them to.
At the time the kitchen table was strewn with cushions, the contents of the cupboard in which the boiler lives covered every surface – and I had two somewhat disintegrating garden tables (the basis of my stall) taking up most of the rest of the room.
I thought I’d have time to get everything sorted before the plumbers descended, but no.
I managed to maintain a state of zen calm whilst they dismantled the boiler and I set my stall out.
We only tripped over one another once – or maybe twice.
I did, however, forget to take the pictures I was going to take. These are just the snaps from my phone I took to help me remember what I’m doing when Saturday comes around.
And I also had to abandon my somewhat grandiose display plans.
At one point these involved building dolls houses from cardboard and potting up flowers from the garden.
Fed up of my stall resembling a dog’s dinner, I’d made big plans. I was going to make doll stands. I was going to have a concept.
It would have looked spectacular.
But there just wasn’t the time, or the space – or the requisite amount of cardboard – for construction, and painting, and glueing and, well, faffing about.
So I didn’t. I just had to let it go.
I’ve packed everything up, to stop me being tempted to revisit what should have been and faff about some more.
I think I’ve got a new (second best) plan and I’m sticking to it.
But hey, it could all change by Saturday. ♥
I’m thinking it looks pretty spectacular already, so I can only imagine what you’d have done with endless time and a long run-up. I do like the idea of a collapsible card doll house display stand thingy, though, especially if it’s got nice retro soft furnishings!
Oh you have no idea Kate! I had earmarked a week or so to play around with staging and prop-making but despite a long run-up, time and other projects ran away with me. I might revisit some of the ideas though… they’re all stored away for future use!
I think it looks amazing as it is Sharon! Your makes are so beautiful and so colourful, I don’t think you need many props. I hope it goes wonderfully well – and hope the boiler’s all sorted too xxx
Thanks Zoë! The boiler is unfortunately not sorted. It keeps switching itself off when you need hot water – most irritating when it happens in the middle of a shower! But it steadfastly refused to do it whilst the plumber was here – returning to it’s irritating habits the same evening!
To me your work speaks for itself..brilliant…and doesn’t need fancy props to make it sell! Wish I wasn’t in the USA so I could come and shop ’til I dropped!
Have a great Saturday!
