It was Wirksworth Festival Art and Architecture Trail this weekend.
It’s a fantastic annual event in which the wonderfully picturesque town of Wirksworth in Derbyshire becomes one huge art gallery.
There’s art in houses and homes, art in shops, art in pubs, art in abandoned buildings, art in sheds, art in gardens, art in churches… in fact, anywhere you can think of, there’s some art in it.
It’s one of my favourite events of the year.
I didn’t have time to visit the Makers’ Market this year, which was a shame. I applied but didn’t get selected, so it would’ve been interesting to see who did make the grade.
The sun shone all day and the architecture glowed in the late summer afternoon light and I didn’t mind that I wasn’t exhibiting.
We ate mezze in the tiny courtyard garden of someone’s higgledy-piggledy little house, and we saw stuff ranging from film of atom bomb explosions on Bikini Atoll, to the most exquisitely detailed floral paintings.
Here are some of my highlights…
My photos don’t do the exhibits justice (I forgot my camera and had to rely on my phone) and I’m afraid I was enjoying myself too much to think about diligently jotting down details of the exhibits and exhibitors.
But you can find out more about the artists here.
The only thing missing was a certain person’s vintage floral makes….
Maybe next year. ♥
It looks like a great show–well worth trying again to be selected. Good luck next year!
I’m sticking this one in the diary for next year. Someone else had mentioned it to me. I love the concept of exhibiting everywhere, except in a staged gallery.
Sounds like a good day! 🙂
